I’m no Spring Chicken, and I’ve been around the block (just once!) so when my beloved asked me to take the coolest name ever my wedding planning was less about fairy-tale Princess and more about getting down to business (duh! The party!). Almost immediately we got asked, “Where are you registered”? With the food, wine, and laughter the main theme of the wedding, we just simply began telling people to buy us a bottle; although, that in itself can get tricky if you are a wine snot like me- some people just have to be guided. This is when I called my friend Ash Mehta of Tastes of The Valley in Pismo Beach.
Tastes of The Valley is more wine shop than wine bar, however, I’m quite comfortable with it being both. Located in the easy parking section of Pismo Beach (blocks from the pier), Tastes is a little gem in Pismo. Beware, you may trip on boxes. But that’s good-why?-because there are over 700 different options to try. That’s pretty much epic- and means that whether I’m
in the mood for Qupe or Orrin Swift, it’s there. The food options are extremely limited because they specialize in wine; however, they make a kick ass cheese plate, offer these amazing chocolates from a local shop, and have the only “reservation” system with Guisseppe’s down the street. That’s right, Guiseppe’s will call Ash and let him know when your table is ready. Love that!
Back to me- I set up a wish list at Tastes and literally registered for my favorites so as not to guide my friends wrong. It was easy, it was perfect. No returns, duplicates were quite all right, and no downloading endless pages of lists for the inevitable scavenger hunt through Target. Just click, buy, easy. Ahhh.
