I am a huge fan of brunch. There is something about this meal that requires lingering, conversations, and makes 10am champagne cocktails acceptable. For those of us on the Central Coast, brunch is a regular occasion; we don’t need it to be Easter or Mother’s Day- we simply need a beautiful Sunday and several hours to kill. No big shock or awe should be heard however when I tell you that I am a true snob when it comes to brunch (and wine, and beer, and well most everything), but I have found the Central Coast’s best brunch and view-the view rocks too!
Move aside heat lamps and omelette bars- The Lido has my vote for best brunch on the Central Coast. $29 per person gets you a prix fix 3 course meal that brings together breakfast and lunch selections meant to please everyone at the table, unlimited bubbles, coffee, tea, or juice. Not a bad deal, considering up and down the coast the heat lamps and endless lines come at a $35+ per person tab. New Executive Chef, Jacob Moss has created a menu that celebrates the local bounty; while I feasted on the Prawn Cocktail(uh…these guys were freaking huge!) with housemade cocktail sauce and horseradish to start, my table mates enjoyed fresh Morro Bay Oysters with a pink peppercorn mignette and muscat grapes, and a fresh fruit and yogurt parfait. Since I’m a breakfast traditionalist the main course brought me the Eggs Benedict on grilled toast, while the table also enjoyed the Omelette Fungi Misti which was amazingly stuffed with 12 different types of mushrooms including the first chantrelles of the season; and the Swordfish Puttanesca, a spicy red sauce based pasta dish featuring local swordfish, spanish white anchovies, capers, and kalamata olives. Finishing the meal; our third course included a delightful vanilla creme brulee, a seasonal bread pudding, and a gorgeous fruit plate. Most importantly; the bubbles provided in constant flow to the table was light, slightly dry, and produced no Sunday afternoon bubble headache. Priceless.
The Lido is located inside the beautiful Dolphin Bay Resort at 2727 Shell Beach Road in Pismo Beach and their brunch hours are Saturday and Sundays: 8:00 am – 2:00 pm. The service is always on key, but I must give a quick shout out to Julian- this girl won’t sit in any other section. You can prepare your taste buds and belly here: The Lido at Dolphin Bay
