Blessed with long, mild days this week; it’s truly summertime and the living is definitely easy! This week I’m enjoying libations that are light and crisp, and the kind of mellow days that gear you up for non-stop play. Here are some of my favorite things this week:
What I’m eating
- Chevre with honey from Trader Joe’s is absolutely my obsession this week. I first discovered this little gem at a favorite wine barand was extremely surprised to find out that it was from Trader Joe’s. The balance of the mild tang of goat cheese with the sweetness of honey makes this the perfect partner with a spinach salad, roasted peaches, or just a simple crostini. Best yet? This little moment of awesome comes with a sweet price tag, grab the entire log for $3.99.
What I’m drinking
- I don’t always drink Sauvignon Blanc…but I do love the Sauv by Mike Sinor and his very limited label, Valor. This is the white that both refreshes and keeps your palate interested from first sip to, well, the end of the bottle. This wine has beautiful acidity, with notes of meyer lemon, lime, and a hint of green bell pepper. Both sweet and spicy, I keep a bottle chilling in the fridge at all times. Grab it at the fantastic Tastes of The Valleys wine shop in Pismo Beach for a song at $18.
Where I’m playing
- The Santa Ynez Valley is like the perfect woman; elegant, friendly, down home, and knows how to cook. The Valley has attracted amazing talent to the area at top notch restaurants such as The Ballard Inn, Root 246, and the Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe. I love that the wineries are still boutique, and the staff are all friendly and seem to have created a supportive community of their own. In order to discover the Valley, you really need a few good days to get into the nooks and crannies beyond the Casino. There are a ton of hidden gems from the quaint town of Ballard, the gorgeous tap room at Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co., to the gorgeous and hidden River View Park in Buellton.
